MT VERNON. Known for its elegant decor, with black and white marble floors, gold leaf, and dramatic skylights, the George Peabody Library is equally impressive for its non-circulating collection of rare books and maps. Part of John Hopkins University's Sheridan Libraries Special Collections, the library has an array of mostly 18th and 19th century writings, and is open to the public for reading, research, and browsing, and for private functions.
