Reata
(Restaurants - American)
310 Houston St Sundance Square, Fort Worth  76102 • 817-336-1009
Description: Forced to vacate its original home after a tornado struck the city, Reata operated a catering business for two years before settling into its dramatic new location. Now operating on three floors (one of which is a rooftop garden) of a venue in Sundance Square, Reata is reclaiming its status as one of FW's best restaurants. The cuisine still honors West Texas's cowboy heritage, just as the name pays tribute to the ranch in the movie "Giant." Culinary innovation remains strong as well, as does the characteristic Texas hospitality. Popular for business lunches. Attire is casual to semi-dressy. Texas and California vintages are available.

The Reata is a truly excellent restaurant choice for many occasions. It has a wonderful casual yet elegant atmosphere. It shows the dressy side of Ft. Worth without losing its roots. As for the food - it is the best. Great steaks, seafood, salads and desserts.

I recently had out of town guests for a weekend (March 20/21) and as a treat to ourselves we went the Reata after a performance at the Bass, for dinner. The service was outstanding. But the food was just awful. One of us ordered a buffalo steak, and it was just a cut of fat and gristle. Another ordered the venison medallions, and it was not venison that tasted familiar to any of us - we swear it was some type of liver! The other two patrons ordered fresh smoked salmon. It was not fresh, and had an imitation smoke flavor put on it. In summary, we were extremely put off by our meal. The kitchen apparently needs some cooking help.
