STRIP DISTRICT. Chili braised chicken empanadas, conch fritters, and seared rare salmon medallions are a few of the interesting menu choices you may find at this chic Caribbean spot, a reformed nightclub smack-dab in the middle of Pittsburgh's Strip District. Hot and cold tropas (like tapas, with a Caribbean/Asian twang) are the popular choice here. They have an impressive list of tropical cocktails and a good beer selection, and outdoor seating perfect for summer dining. Lots of vegetarian options. Happy hours Mon-Fri offer drink and tropas specials, and you can step right out onto the dance floor if the mood strikes you. |

Kaya is one of the best restaurants in the downtown Pittsburgh area, and one where I take all of my out-of-town, "hip" friends! The decor is Carribean-esque with the colors and artwork and palm-tree fringes on the barstools. The food is excellent although, in the dinner menu especially, a bit overpriced. But it is an excellent "special" place for a treat. Very atypical cuisine for a former Smoky City! |
