New Ginza
(Restaurants - Japanese)
63-65 Galen St, Watertown  02472 • 617-923-2100
Description: WEST METRO. Folks west of Boston need not travel all the way into the city to enjoy great sushi. No, they can get that at Watertown's rather stylish New Ginza, younger sibling of the popular Chinatown spot. Like its elder, this location draws rave reviews for its creative takes on maki, nigiri and sashimi, all of them made with fresh-from-the-sea ingredients and some of them named after local icons like the Pats, Sox and Celtics. In addition, their delicious "hot" dishes like yaki-niku and nabemono are sound alternatives if you're not in the mood for the raw.

Osushi
(Restaurants - Japanese)
10 Huntington Ave Westin Copley Place, Boston  02116 • 617-266-2788
Description: BACK BAY. Located as it is in Copley Place, Osushi certainly doesn't want for lack of business. Of course, the convenience factor only partially explains this place's appeal. Hip and very sexy, the black and red minimalist space draws a cool mix of business types, international travelers and Back Bay hipsters. Sushi and sashimi are masterfully prepared using only the freshest available ingredients, and each dish is evocatively presented. The sake selection, unsurprisingly, draws vast approval from those who fancy themselves rice wine connoisseurs, and more adventurous palates should consider taking the plunge in one of the bar signature saketinis.

57 Broad St, Boston  02109 • 617-542-4311
Description: FINANCIAL DISTRICT. There's much to recommend Sakurabana as the perfect downtown lunch stop: quick service, great specials, and terrific sushi. At both lunch and dinner, an extensive menu and large portions don't hurt the cause either. In fact, you're sure to walk away satisfied after a feast of traditional fare. Enjoy steaming miso soup and a round of sashimi for dinner, or enjoy sushi and drinks at the bar.

Umi
(Restaurants - Japanese)
90 Peterborough St, Boston  02215 • 617-536-6688
Description: FENWAY DISTRICT. If you're convinced that wings, burgers and dogs are best things to eat before or after catching a game at Fenway, Umi on Peterborough aims to change your mind. Needless to say, if you give this casual sushi joint a shot, it'll do just that. Saddle up to the bar and treat your palate to something more sensual than ho-hum pub grub – perhaps the Spicy Maki Combo chased by a Sapporo or two. If sit down fare is required, the kitchen skillfully prepares a number of tasty tempura, teriyaki and noodle dishes.

Village Sushi & Grill
(Restaurants - Japanese)
14 Corinth St, Roslindale  02131 • 617-363-7874
Description: ROSLINDALE. Though the Village's culinary expertise extends far beyond traditional Japanese cuisine (a quick run-through of the menu'll reveal dishes like pad Thai and even Korean barbecue), what really draws folks to this Roslindale space is the sushi. Indeed, their artistically-presented sushi comes in all shapes, sizes and versions – nigiri to sushimi. That said, several maki creations count themselves among the house specialties, including the JP Blues (named in honor of cousin-at-arms JP Seafood) and New England (white fish, fried of course) rolls.
