        Description: A series of parks and recreational spaces encircles this 3700-acre lake located a short drive from downtown Fort Worth. Fishing is popular, and local anglers frequently cast for largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. Boat ramps allow watercraft access, and picnic areas and campsites are found along the shore. Given the lake's proximity to the city, it's a desirable destination for folks who want a quick escape from urban life or are simply yearning for a measure of pastoral beauty. Fees are required for most parks and access points around the lake.

        Description: GLEN ROSE. At this park, approximately 50 miles west of Fort Worth, visitors can walk the bed of the Paluxy River to find dinosaur tracks dating back 110 million years. Educational exhibits, including fiberglass models of a tyrannosaurus rex and an apatosaurus, are available, as are camping, hiking, picnicking, and swimming. You'll also find a Texas State Park store. Located in Somervell County, four miles west of Glen Rose.

        Description: Sheltered in the park's 3500 acres are a wealth of native plants and wildlife, offering visitors a terrific opportunity to see the original environment that early settlers encountered. Nature trails and canoeing opportunities are available, and the interpretive center features exhibits about the terrain and inhabitants of the area. Kids are especially entranced by the grand vistas and the abundance of animal life found in the park. A host of scheduled events and tours can also be found. Located west of downtown, two miles west past the Lake Worth bridge, at the intersection of FM1886 and Hwy 199.

        Description: This park, designed by architects Phillip Johnson and John Burgee, carved a grand space in the city and revels in its awesome fountains and created terrain. One of five separate water features, the breathtaking falls can be viewed from below and offer a fabulous view of gushing waters tumbling over the rocks above. The park also includes trees and naturalized plantings in its four acres and is a great place to have lunch outside. It's also ideal if you simply want to walk about and enjoy the tranquility.
