In a little family-owned place just west of downtown, Betty Ruiz cooks up tasty Tex-Mex recipes and provides a selection of low-fat dishes too. In the mornings, excellent breakfast burritos hit the spot, and on Thursday nights, Betty cooks up homemade chicken and dumplings. If you've got a strong constitution, try the famous "hot" sauce. Friendly service can always be found, but payment is limited to cash and checks only. |

Description:
Folks in Fort Worth wouldn't know what to do without Joe T's. For more than 60 years, this family-owned mainstay has been serving up great Mexican fare to people from all around. Dinner entrees are basically limited to enchiladas and fajitas, but they're done so well and come in such substantial portions that no one seems to mind. Guacamole, chips and salsa, and side dishes round out the offerings. Several bars take care of the margarita need, and expansive outdoor gardens and patios house thousands of patrons regularly. In fact, the enclosed greenspace, with its plants and fountains, attracts so many that lines often circle the restaurant. |

Description:
With an interior styled like a log cabin, this rustic place lets you know the cuisine is going to be hearty. It's also decidedly good. Appetizers include nachos, spicy shrimp cocktail, and venison quesadillas. Main course options feature such temptations as hacienda grilled catfish, stuffed poblano peppers, and grilled, bacon-wrapped prawns. Steaks are cut thick and perfectly prepared, just as you'd expect in Texas. Fajitas get their own menu, and combination plates let you sample a few of your favorite Southwestern treats. Even better, meals come with an assortment of sides to ensure that your satisfaction is as big as the Lone Star State. Frozen margaritas, said to have been invented by the owner, are worth your attention. |

Description:
Authenticity reigns at this small eatery, located west of town near the UPRR railroad yard. Mexican fare served at the family-owned and -operated place includes fresh tacos, gorditas, burritos, and tortas (along with great breakfast tacos). In fact, the menu is quite impressive for such a small place. Portions are generous, and service is quick. The staff speaks little English, though, so bone up on your Spanish before you stop by. Except for an outdoor table, there's no seating either – only take-out business. Simply place your order at the window and wait to pick it up. You'll never miss the ambience with such great, quick food. |
