Description:
DOWNTOWN. Blood-red walls and stuffed vultures might not be the most inviting ambience for a morning meal, but the eats are so tasty at this road-food joint that you might not even notice. Try the house specialty, Mahnomin porridge – a warm blend of Minnesota wild rice, hazelnuts, cranberries, blueberries, cream and maple syrup that originated in American Indian cookery. Other equally appealing choices include ¼-lb. caramel rolls, huevos rancheros made with fresh salsa and rosti potatoes, and maple-glazed bison sausage. Be prepared: prices are commensurate with the quality of ingredients and the large portions. Not to be missed! |

Description:
MILL DISTRICT. From 1880 until the end of World War I, Minneapolis led the nation – and the world – in flour production. The Washburn A Mill was the largest flour mill in existence; its remains now house this museum, which recounts the importance of the flour industry to Minneapolis and explains the milling process through interactive exhibits. Authentic railroad cars and milling equipment are also on view. Kids love the eight-story Flour Tower, and parents appreciate the on-site cafe for its coffee and light snacks. |

Description:
NORTHEAST MINNEAPOLIS. Going strong for over 50 years, this piano and polka bar is a Minneapolis mainstay. Hearty, authentic Polish food, sing-along tunes, a rousing polka band, and plenty of opportunities to cut a rug keep locals around and attract out-of-towners. Gigantic cocktails can be had in the piano bar, making the prospect of taking the stage and crooning into the mic a bit more palatable. In the adjacent polka room, the legendary Ruth Adams has been laying down a mean 2/4 beat since before many younger patrons were born. Truly a Minneapolis original and perfect for those seeking a fun, unpretentious night out. |
